Detroit Irish Musicians Association

Tristan Pruss

The tradition is alive and well in Southeast Michigan! The Detroit Irish Music Association, formerly the Crotty-Doran Branch of CCE, has enjoyed a nice revival over the past several years. Currently based at Green Wood FUMC in Ann Arbor, the branch meets weekly during the school year for 'tunes, tea and fun!'. Our Thursday night session has shown a promising influx of new players this year with the introduction of a 'slow session' period, followed by the usual session, which is targeted at learners and 'improvers' of all levels. Attendance has been great, drawing folks from all over the metro Detroit area, and as far away as Kalamazoo, Flint, and Toledo.

Lessons and Workshops

We also continue to offer private and group lessons for kids and adults, as well as occasional workshops with accomplished local players, and distinguished guest musicians. The branch has worked closely with the Strayaway Child Concert Series to 'create a home for traditional music in Michigan', assisting with the concerts, and coordinating workshops with several of the series' performers over the past several years.

We were also excited this year to launch a new website to promote our mission and to help people to find us and get involved, and it's safe to say it's been a huge success. Participation and membership are both up significantly, due in part to our increased visibility. You can find us on the web at: Detroit Irish Music
